Understanding the Research Field

Northumbria University Session
Wednesday 13 March 2019, 10.00 am to 3.30 pm
Northumbria University, Ground floor meeting room, BALTIC 39, 31–39 High Bridge Street, Newcastle

Overview

This session will compare and contrast the different approaches to art & design research undertaken at the universities of Northumbria and Sunderland. The session will be structured around the presentation of a series of 15 minute presentations by students at different stages of their research journey and will facilitate an exploration of the range of methodological approaches employed by our art & design researchers.

Students will be asked to address the following questions:

  • What is your key research question - what are you trying to find out/explore/critique/examine?
  • How will you do this - what methods/techniques/approach/tools/materials do you use/adopt/exploit?
  • What is the main audience for this work- how will you disseminate your findings?
  • How will you know if you have succeeded or otherwise?
  • What is next?
